Bot or Not

What an eye-opening session! This week, Youth4Youth taught students at ESF South Island School about chatbots and students explored how to test the 'humanness' of a chatbot. Students used Kuki, formerly known as Mitsuku, which is one of the most intelligent AI chatbots and the most well-known social chatbot for the English language, being a five-time winner of the Turing Test competition.

Students were asked the question, 'If you were chatting online to someone who could be a human or AI, what questions would you ask to determine who you are speaking to?' It was amazing to see the students creatively think of questions to ask Kuki to trick it into proving that it is not human. We ended the session by discussing with the students how chatbots work and teaching them how to design a chatbot. Students also learnt about the three types of chatbots and how they work: rule based chatbots, intellectually dependent chatbots and AI powered chatbots.
